Welcome to Kansas SARE Program

Each year, Kansas is eligible to receive funds from the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NCR-SARE) Professional Development Program. A Plan of Work is submitted and reviewed by the NCR-SARE Administrative Council. Funding levels are based on merit. Each year, an annual report must be submitted and a new Plan of Work submitted for each funding year.

The program was created by the 1992 Farm Bill, and defines the target audience for the professional development program as agricultural professional, including extension educators, Natural Resource Conservation Service staff, state and federal agency workers and educators in the profit and not-for-profit sectors serving the food and fiber system.

-CURRENT REGIONAL OPEN GRANTS-

NCR-SARE 2011 Youth/Youth Educator Grant Call for Proposals -- The 2011 North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (NCR-SARE) Youth/Youth Educator Grant Call for Proposals is now available online at http://www.northcentralsare.org/Grants/Apply-for-a-Grant

NCR-SARE Youth & Youth Educator Grants are intended to provide opportunities for youth in the North Central Region to learn more about Sustainable Agriculture: farming and ranching that is ecologically sound, profitable, and socially responsible. Please note that 21st Century Farming involves growing food and fiber and can include market gardens and urban agriculture.

There are two options:
1. YOUTH GRANTS: Grants for on-farm research, demonstration, or education projects by youth ages 8-18. Research and demonstration projects are for hands-on efforts to explore Sustainable Agriculture issues and practices. Education projects can involve teaching others about Sustainable Agriculture or attending a Sustainable Agriculture conference, workshop, or camp. $400 maximum.

2. YOUTH EDUCATOR GRANTS: Grants for educators to provide programming on Sustainable Agriculture for youth. $2,000 maximum. Proposals are due in the NCR-SARE office in Jefferson City, Missouri by 4:30 p.m. CST, January 12, 2012

NCR-SARE 2012 Graduate Student Grant Call for Proposals -- The 2012 North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (NCR-SARE) Graduate Student Grant Call for Proposals is now available online at http://www.northcentralsare.org/Grants/Apply-for-a-Grant

Graduate students enrolled at colleges or universities in the North Central Region can submit proposals for up to $10,000 to fund sustainable agriculture projects that will be part of their educational programs. NCR-SARE expects to fund about 15 projects in the twelve-state North Central Region. Funded proposals have contributed to farmer or rancher profitability, environmental quality, and the enhancement of the quality of life of farmers or ranchers, rural communities, and society as a whole. NCR-SARE strongly encourages students to involve farmers and ranchers in their Graduate Student Grant projects. Potential applicants can contact Beth Nelson at schre002@umn.edu or 612-626-4436. Proposals are due in the NCR-SARE office in St Paul, MN by 4:30 p.m. CST, January 26, 2011.
